Vervain
Verbena officinalis
1:3 Ethanol/Distilled H2O Spagyric tincture of organic, dried Vervain, with purified salt principle added.

Physical properties*:
Vervain is a heating and drying herb that clears obstructions from the body, but don’t let its stimulating nature deceive you, for it remedies exhaustion, nervousness, tension and depression, being an analgesic, nervine and antispasmodic – I have even found it to induce very deep sleeps (after it pushed me and a lover to work through some big issues going on for us individually). It is stated to be good for ‘coldness of the womb’, being an emmenagogue, diuretic and a depurative (herb with a detoxifying, purifying effect) particularly proficient at dredging the liver and thus relieving jaundice (yellowness of eyes, complexion and bodily fluids). It can expel worms, is antibacterial, healing of ulcers in the mouth, it draws together wounds both internally and externally, is diaphoretic (raises heat upwards in the body), can relieve stones and other gall bladder problems, and is an excellent mothers herb – being a galactagogue (increases milk flow) and healing for mastitis.

Emotional/Spiritual properties*:
Vervain’s unblocking physical properties carry through to the emotional and spiritual realm in allowing one to have a refreshed awareness of life, enabling one to cast off a previous cycle or state of being and alight in to a new way or changed path. It is effective at opening the third eye, enabling the birds eye view to be taken by enabling heavy attachments to certain issues to be released. Thoroughly revered in ancient times this herb was said to be the herb of Isis, mother of the universe! Vervain is particularly apt for highly strung, and self-righteous individuals, it induces a kind of softening in such people, easing fanaticism and helping them to simply allow the path to unfold. Ultimately, its Venusian influences seem to call us in to the warmth that the deep of compassion of truth really is, here, we can nestle in to a greater state of ease in seeing the way in which all things can and will be made well, and will also naturally rectify themselves.
 
Cautions/Contraindications:
-Pregnancy: Historically Vervain has been used to accelerate childbirth, when in labour. Thus, it should not be used during pregnancy due to its oxytocic and uterine stimulant effects. It may also degrade bone the quality of bone formation in fetuses.
-Female Disorders: Vervain’s uterine stimulant effect may make it unsuitable for women who have endometriosis, and or menorrhagia (excessive vaginal bleeding). Consult your physician, and/or proceed with monitoring and caution if you have these conditions.
-Iron absorption: In some people vervain has been found to reduce iron absorption by 59%, so it should not be consumed by those with anemia, bleeding conditions or low iron.
-Blood Thinners: Vervain is high in vitamin K which may interact with blood thinning drugs like Warfarin.
