Planetary Ruler: Mercury
Physical Effects*:
L. stoechas is a widely used folk medicine in the Mediterranean area where it grows well in rocky soils similar to the ones this batch of herb was harvested from. It has been used as an antispasmodic agent, to promote good relaxation and rest, to reduce inflammation and pain, to treat nephrotic syndrome (passing of too much protein in the urine), and it reduces the severity of rheumatic diseases. Researchers have found the essential oils and other extracts of this plant to be antibacterial, insecticidal, antiseptic, antifungal, anti-leishmanial (treats leishmania parasites), anti-oxidant, anti-inflammatory, nervine, sedative anti-asthmatic, expectorant (shifts heavy mucous from the respiratory tract) and digestive. This plant has also been shown to remedy nausea, alleviate digestive bloating and gas, treat pulmonary infections and colds, clean and heal wounds, sooth eczema, reduce migraine, headache and epilepsy, elevate depression and aid in the regulation of diabetes.

Emotional/Spiritual Effects*:
There is a stern graciousness this medicine carries, or maybe it is a gracious sternness, like a discerning elder, this plant is direct in its imparting of clarity. Sometimes, in order to truly breathe free we must liberate ourselves from thoughtforms that may feel comfortable but ultimately constrain our spirit, Lavender can show us those thought forms with fervour, and once we find them she/he can invoke compassion, gentleness and strengthened resolve in letting go of them, because we just ‘know’ that we must. Similarly, there are interpersonal situations that may appear peaceful, steady or comfortable, but beneath the surface there are tensions, unspoken needs or even damages occouring, in these situations Lavender will work through us to bring all parties to the table, making space for everyone’s truth and experience to be heard. This plant teaches us that every experience is valid, and to be understood in order to progress a situation fully, it illuminates to us what desires do not respect everyone else’s needs and desires, simultaneously illuminating what core needs must be upheld and honoured in order for life and that situation to progress fruitfully for all involved. The soft leaved, but sharp-tasting plant is a true diplomat, enabling the expression of truth to be steadily invoked wherever it goes. Noting that some people can be quite forceful in their expression of truth, this herb can ease that intensity so that their words become more palatable and readily received by those around them.
