Physical properties*:
This species of Lavender Is antidiabetic, antispasmodic, antihypertensive for colds flus and renal colic. One study found French lavender to be anti-microbial against 22 different strains of bacteria including Haemophilus influenza, Neisseria meningitidis and different species of Streptococcus. It contains the essential oils, ethyl linalool, fenchone, linalool, α-terpineol, 1,8-cineole and camphor. These last components carry antispasmodic, antifungal, antibacterial, anti-inflammatory, analgesic, repellent and insecticide properties. The highly defensive properties detailed above and it’s vulnerary actions make Lavender an excellent wound healer. The essential oils are quite cleansing for the lungs, when considered in combination with its antibacterial, antispasmodic, antimicrobial and anti-hypertensive qualities, French Lavender stands forth as an ideal candidate in the treatment of many respiratory illnesses – it should be noted however that whilst it is soothing in a muscular sense it does have a drying effect on the mucosal membranes. Consider pairing with a moistening herb like marshmallow or comfrey if one is suffering from ‘dry’ symptoms.

Emotional/Spiritual properties*:
Its defensive and respiratory clearing properties in the physical, manifest in the emotional and spiritual realms as a propensity to encourage the clear communication of boundaries. Lavender helps us to speak just and fair words with an appreciation of what is right for all. The just sword of Lavender will also turn itself to those journeying with the plant, to cut away behaviours, patterns and other ties that are causing a lack of calm in ones being, especially purifying for worrisome thoughts. Lavender can be used as a herb to wind down from and integrate one’s studies, and it can consolidate platonic Teacher-Student relations. It is said to be protective, but I feel a more accurate perception is that it illuminates and amplifies the guidance of our truth and the collective’s truth as one, which innately steers us from harm’s way. Lavender has been used to bring stability to a romantic union and increase fidelity.
